What is a Blog? – The Definition of Blog, Blogging, and Blogger

what is a blog image
Do you know what a blog is? If you don’t, then you’ve come to the right place. In 1994, when blogs began, a blog was more of a personal diary that people shared online. In this online journal, you could talk about your daily life or share about things that you were doing. Then, people saw an opportunity to communicate information in a new way online. Thus began the beautiful world of blogging.

Table of contents

Today, there are more than 600 million blogs on the web. The number of bloggers in the United States alone is set to reach 31.7 million users by 2020.

What is a Blog?

Definition of blog

A blog (a shortened version of “weblog”) is an online journal or informational website displaying information in the reverse chronological order, with the latest posts appearing first, at the top. It is a platform where a writer or a group of writers share their views on an individual subject.

What is the purpose of a blog?

There are many reasons to start a blog for personal use and only a handful of strong ones for business blogging. Blogging for business, projects, or anything else that might bring you money has a very straightforward purpose – to rank your website higher in Google SERPs, a.k.a. increase your visibility.
As a business, you rely on consumers to keep buying your products and services. As a new business, you rely on blogging to help you get to potential consumers and grab their attention. Without blogging, your website would remain invisible, whereas running a blog makes you searchable and competitive.
So, the main purpose of a blog is to connect you to the relevant audience. Another one is to boost your traffic and send quality leads to your website.
The more frequent and better your blog posts are, the higher the chances for your website to get discovered and visited by your target audience. This means that a blog is an effective lead generation tool. Add a great call to action (CTA) to your content, and it will convert your website traffic into high-quality leads. A blog also allows you to showcase your niche authority and build a brand.
When you use your niche knowledge for creating informative and engaging posts, it builds trust with your audience. Great blogging makes your business look more credible, which is especially important if your brand is still young and fairly unknown. It ensures presence online and niche authority at the same time.

Blog structure

The appearance of blogs has changed over time, and these days blogs include a wide variety of items and widgets. However, most blogs still include some standard features and structure.
Here are common features that a typical blog will include:
  • Header with the menu or navigation bar.
  • Main content area with highlighted or latest blog posts.
  • Sidebar with social profiles, favorite content, or call-to-action.
  • Footer with relevant links like a disclaimer, privacy policy, contact page, etc.
Basic blog structure
The above example is the basic structure of the average blog. Each item has its own importance and helps visitors to navigate through your blog.

Blogs and websites

Many people still wonder if there is any difference between a blog and a website. What is a blog and what is a website? It’s even more challenging to differentiate between the two today. Many companies are integrating blogs into their websites as well, which further confuses the two.

What differentiates blogs from websites?

Blogs need frequent updates. Good examples of this include a food blog sharing meal recipes or a company writing about their industry news.
Blogs also promote reader engagement. Readers have a chance to comment and voice their different concerns and thoughts to the community. On the other hand, websites consist of the content presented on static pages. Static website owners rarely update their pages. Blog owners update their site with new blog posts on a regular basis.
Key elements that identify a blog post from a static website page include a publishing date, author reference, categories, and tags within a byline. While not all blog posts have all of those byline elements, static website pages do not have any of these items. From a visitor perspective, the content on a static site will not change from one visit to the next. However, depending on the blog owner’s publishing schedule, the content on a blog will offer something new each day, week, or month.

What is blogging?

In the early 2000s, blogging emerged in a variety of forms when several political blogs were born. Blogs with how-to manuals also began to appear. Established institutions began to note the difference between journalism and blogging.

Definition of blogging

Blogging is a collection of skills that one needs to run and supervise a blog. This entails equipping a web page with tools to make the process of writing, posting, linking, and sharing content easier on the internet.

Why is blogging so popular?

It’s important to mention that the popularity of blogging grows with each passing day!
To answer the question ‘what is blogging’, we need to look at the factors behind its rise.
In the early stages, blogs became mainstream, as news services began using them as tools for outreach and opinion forming. They became a new source of information.
Why is blogging so popular
Through blogging, businesses saw a positive way to improve their customer’s level of satisfaction. Blogs assist companies in keeping clients and customers up to date. Also, the more people that visit your blog, the more exposure and trust your brand gets.
Personal and niche bloggers saw the potential to reach more people interested in specific topics. Through a blog, visitors can comment and interact with you or your brand which helps you to create a network of loyal followers.
Did you know that you could earn money through blogging? Once your blog receives enough attention and fans, you can investigate ways of monetizing your blog. Through the blog, you can offer your services and sell products.

Who is a blogger?

In recent times, bloggers have become famous for various reasons. Blogging has become an alternative career or side gig to many. Seeing this, even more people are choosing to join the blogging ranks.
So who are bloggers? Bloggers are individuals who love sharing parts of their lives with you. They post on various topics from arts, home designs, carpentry, and finance articles. Bloggers are mobile and don’t need to be in one place. They live on the internet!

Definition of a blogger

A blogger is someone who runs and controls a blog. He or she shares his or her opinion and knowledge on different topics for a target audience.

Why are many people blogging today?

Would you want to have a blog of your own? Yes!
Most people today are creating blogs for a variety of reasons. Every human being has their own story to tell. Through the internet, bloggers can communicate to a massive number of people.
Why is blogging so popular?
Blogs allow you to talk about any topic you are interested in and express your opinion. You’ll find some bloggers writing on every activity that took place during their day. These activities may range from small things like waking up to major issues like human rights and climate change! Remember that as a blogger running your own blog, you need to focus on the topics that you are passionate about and through that focus strive to become one of the best blogs on the web.

Are bloggers getting paid?

Bloggers do earn money, but this is not a get-rich-quick kind of profession. Before you can start monetizing your blog, you need to build both your Google SERPs ranking and your niche influence. Those tasks take a lot of time and quality content. Money-making opportunities won’t present themselves until you’ve gained some credibility in the field. So, get down to business.
Here’s how you can make good money as a top-ranked niche blogger:
  • Selling ad space on your blog privately or via Google AdSense.
  • Becoming an affiliate partner privately or through ad networks.
  • Selling your own digital products such as eBooks and tutorials.
  • Selling memberships for access to exclusive content or advice.
  • Using your blog as a content marketing tool for your business.
If you’re starting a blog as a way to market and boost your existing business, you probably won’t be selling ad space or memberships. However, you can create and start offering exclusive digital products such as eBooks, guides, or online courses as a lead capturing tool in exchange for visitors’ email addresses. That way, you’ll nudge them one step further down your sales funnel.

Want to start a blog on your own?

Creating your own personal blog takes a few steps. First, you need to decide on a name for your blog, also called a domain name. Then, you need to choose the best blogging platform for your needs. We recommend going with a self-hosted platform. There are a few choices when it comes to self-hosted platforms, but the most popular is WordPress.org.
The next step is to choose a web hosting service. For new bloggers, we strongly recommend Bluehost, a company that powers over 2 million websites worldwide. You will get a Free domain name when you sign up with them and if you don’t like their services, they offer a 30-day money-back guarantee.
Disclosure: FirstSiteGuide is supported by our readers. When you purchase through links on our site, we may earn an affiliate commission. We test and try all the products that we recommend.
bluehost home page

Recommended tool:

Type in the desired domain in the “new domain” box and BlueHost will show you whether it’s available or not. If not, it will provide you with a list of similar names for you to choose from.

Conclusion

We hope that you’ve learned some helpful information about the world of blogging. If you’ve managed to start a blog, then your next step is to work on your blog content in order to keep your future readers satisfied and engaged. Feel free to check out our extensive list of blogging resources which will help you to run and grow your new blog!

*Ozubulu Cold Room: Our Rural Development Agenda focuses on creating VIABLE RURAL ECONOMIES*

*By Chris Emeka Azubogu*

*Our Rural Development Agenda focuses on creating VIABLE RURAL ECONOMIES with capacity to create jobs and sustain employments within the rural communities.*

One of my major parliamentary focus, is on how to reduce urban induced challenges through a deliberate policy that will retain manpower within the rural areas and reduce  Rural-Urban migration through a thriving local economy.

*In line with our quest to strengthen community-based Economy, we built and handed over a Cold Room to market women at Orie Akpu Market  in Ozubulu.*

Most of our actions and plans are in line with our core plans which centres on creating a thriving economy.

*I remember when we were  to hand over the Cold room to the market women of Orie Akpu market through the Town Union and Women Wing, the 60kv generator we bought to power the Cold Room was reportedly stolen, perhaps a ploy to discourage us!*

It was so sad that some persons could sabotage such people oriented project however since we are driven by our vision, we replaced it in the interest of our people as we would not relent in our  quest for rural development and empowerment of our women.

*The good thing is that the community have taken care of the security of the project and even went ahead to fence it through one of their illustrious sons.*

With this, we have succeeded in cutting the cost of traveling outside Ozubulu for cold room Services.

*May I also state here that, I appreciate the supportive role of various Community leadership as it concerns our development quest. We are pursuing a new economic window aimed at making our people self sufficient and key stakeholders in the development of our society.*

The world is still waiting for us to manifest at our optimal level!

*Re- we are not bothered by your 50million naira APGA induced rally, PDP tells Chris Uba, Umeaba, others.*

The above referred press release that was made by the chronic diarrhoea of the mouth ailment stricken Nnamdi Nwangwu that is the publicity Secretary of Emperor Ndubuisi Nwobu People deceive people party (PDP)faction in Anambra State can be described as the stupidity of a deaf and dumb child that challenged his god to a wrestling bout.

Nnamdi Nwangwu  fabricated tissue of lies that Chief Chris Uba is organising a 50million naira APGA induced rally against the faction of their dead party in Anambra State can only fly in his foolish imagination and that of his pay masters.

Reducing Chris Uba to the level of somebody that can collect bribe of 50million naira is an insult to his personality.

Am not holding brief for Chief Chris Uba, but the truth is that Ndubuisi Nwobu, Peter Obi and Nnamdi Nwangwu are not match for him politically.

They cannot boast of achieving the type of political exploit he achieved in Nigeria.

Let's not forget that  the Chris Uba they are insulting today became BOT member of their party at the age of 30years.

This is an achievement Ndubuisi Nwobu and Peter Obi cannot boast of achieving.

Another thing I will say is that Ndubuisi Nwobu has read the handwriting on the wall and realised that his dead party has lost the forthcoming Anambra 2021 governorship election and he is desperately looking for a way to justify their foreseen  woeful outing in the election hence the reason why he  labelled Chris Uba and others opposed to his dictatorial leadership betrayals.

The attention of APGA government in Anambra State that is ably led by Governor Willie Obiano is focused on delivering dividends of good governance to Ndi Anambra and the Governor has no time to waste in looking for whom to bribe and create problem in their party.

Am so happy that the faction of the dead PDP led by Emperor Ndubuisi Nwobu made an open confession about the crisis in their party.

When I say that PDP is dead and that Emperor Ndubuisi Nwobu is the mortuary attendant preparing the party corpse for burial after the 2021 governorship election, am saying the truth.

PDP is a cursed party and their party members brought the curse upon themselves with the evil they perpetrated against ndi Anambra from 1999 to 2006.

Karma is now tormenting them and will continue tormenting them until after the burial of the party in 2021.

*BREAKING: FG reverses resumption of schools, withdraws unity schools from 2020 WASSCE*

The federal government has reversed its earlier announcement of schools’ resumption, saying Nigeria will not participate in the West African Senior School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE) earlier scheduled for August 5 and September 5.

The examination was initially postponed indefinitely to check the spread of COVID-19.

But Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, minister of state for education, had announced that the West African Senior School Certificate Examinations will take place between August and September.

But speaking to state house correspondents at the end of the virtual federal executive council meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari, Adamu Adamu, minister of education, said Nigerian schools will not reopen any time soon until it is safe to do so because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

He said that final-year students preparing for the Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) will not be allowed to return to school contrary to earlier announcement.

Here is our effort to connect Umuka village Ebenator with Umudiji and Umuike villages of Ukpor, both in Nnewi South LGA with a Bridge.

*In our effort to strengthen Rural Economy, we are deliberately filling Infrastructural gap which will help activate and expand economic activities within and around our communities.*

Our focus here is to reduce the cost of intercommunity trading exchange among various communities and give access to the agrarian areas.

*When this box culvert is connected properly, those within this part of Ebenator Community can access Ugwuorie market, Ukpor within 10 minutes instead of what it used to be.*

Note also that with this 'Mmili Okechukwu stream Bridge', Nkwo Market in Ebenator which is famous in Palm Oil production and other agricultural products, will be more accessible.

*Urban/Rural Development will fuel economic growth and we are mindful of this reality.*

Our goals here are; connecting communities, expanding opportunities, and growing our economy.

BREAKING: DSS Arrests EFCC Acting Chairman, Ibrahim Magu. Read below

Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Magu, has been arrested by the Department of State Services.

He was arrested over allegations that he owns four properties and that he was allegedly transferring funds abroad through a third party.

He was arrested at the Wuse II office of the DSS on Monday afternoon and is now undergoing interrogation at the DSS Headquarters In Aso Drive.

The DSS in a 2016 report revealed that accused of living in a N40m mansion paid for by one Umar Mohammed, a retired air commodore who is allegedly involved in shady deals.

“In December 2010, the Police Service Commission (PSC) found Magu guilty of action prejudicial to state security – withholding of EFCC files, sabotage, unauthorised removal of EFCC files and acts unbecoming of a police officer, and awarded him severe reprimand as punishment.

“Magu is currently occupying a residence rented for N40m at N20m per annum. This accommodation was not paid [for] from the commission’s finances, but by one Umar Mohammed, air commodore retired, a questionable businessman who has subsequently been arrested by the secret service.

“For the furnishing of the residence, Magu enlisted the Federal Capital Development Authority to award a contract to Africa Energy, a company owned by the same Mohammed, to furnish the residence at the cost of N43m.

“Investigations show that the acting EFCC chairman regularly embarked on official and private trips through a private jet owned by Mohammed.

“In one of such trips, Magu flew to Maiduguri alongside Mohammed with a bank MD who was being investigated by the EFCC over complicity in funds allegedly stolen by the immediate past petroleum minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke.

“Furthermore, the EFCC boss has so far maintained a high-profile lifestyle. This is exemplified by his preference for first-class air travels. On 24 June, 2016, he flew Emirate airlines first-class to Saudi Arabia to perform lesser hajj at the cost of N2.9m. This is in spite of Mr President’s directive to all public servants to fly economy class.

“Magu has fostered a beneficial relationship with Mohammed who by his confession approaches clients for possible exploitation, favours and associated returns,” the DSS report said.

Magu is yet to be confirmed as the substantive chairman of the EFCC despite occupying the position in acting capacity for many years

Evang. Chinedu Obigwe-*Emperor Ndubuisi Nwobu and his cohorts are political morons swimming the river of political confusion.*

It is now obvious to Emperor Ndubuisi Nwobu that putting hope on Austin Umahi is tantamount to shooting himself on the legs because Austin Umahi position as People deceive people party Chairman in Southeast has K leg.

The PDP stakeholders backing Chukwudi Umeaba made a shocking revelation that threw Emperor Ndubuisi Nwobu and his illegal faction into the river of political confusion.

In their revelation, they said that Austin Umahi tenure as Southeast PDP Vice Chairman elapsed since 14th May 2020 and that any action taken by him from that 14th May to date is null and void including his pronouncement that Emperor Ndubuisi Nwobu is still the Anambra state Chairman of PDP.

Rather than lick the political wound inflicted on him quietly, Emperor Ndubuisi Nwobu desperately opted to use Anambra PDP Media Directorates that are doing his evil bidding to dash Austin Umahi legitimacy by claiming that after the expiration of his tenure that he was inaugurated as  Caretaker Committee Chairman of Southeast PDP by their party National Youth leader.

With the above claim, it is now confirmed that Austin Umahi tenure elapsed since 14 May 2020 and the question begging for answers is how can something as big as the inauguration of Southeast Zonal exco of PDP be done without notification of Stakeholders of the party in the zone? It's not possible.

What it means is that such inauguration was done in the bedroom of Austin Umahi, witnessed by his wife and family members.

The best way to convince people that such thing happened is to show them video clip of the inauguration.

In the absence of a video clip, Austin Umahi is no longer the Southeast Vice Chairman of PDP rather he is a busy body and an impostor deceiving the gullible minded.

Emperor Ndubuisi Nwobu has been swallowed by the river of political confusion that he personally plunged himself into and that is the fruit of greed.

His last hope is Austin Umahi but as it stands today that his last hope is a hopeless hope.

Congratulations to Chukwudi Umeaba on his well deserved triumph over Austin Umahi and Emperor Ndubuisi Nwobu.

*#Re:Oba-Nnewi-Amichi-Ekwulumili-Unubi-Ezinifite-Uga-Arondizuogu-Okigwe Road…* By Chris Emeka Azubogu*

I wish to bring to the notice of our people that the Federal Government has awarded the project for the completion of above road.

*This road is one of the many projects that has given me sleepless nights, especially whenever I remember the difficulties that people from these communities pass through while commuting on dilapidated portions of the road.*

My question has always been: “How can our projected Industrial Park situated along that axis (Unubi-Akwaihedi-Uga) function without this important road in good stead?”

*Those who have followed developments on the road may recalled that I have been on this project until the Federal Executive Council (FEC) approved the award of the contract for the project on September 11, 2019. Thereafter, I have continued to follow up to ensure that administrative bottleneck does not stall or limit the project to paper only.*

To the glory of God, after my last meeting with the Honourable Minister for Works and Administrative Heads within the Ministry, I can authoritatively say that it has been awarded and I appreciate FEC and all those that contributed to this in one way or the other.

*I have always believed that projects like this one needs Legislative/Executive engagement and I am happy at point we are.*

*Part of the award letter read:*

"I am pleased to inform you that the Federal Executive Council (FEC) at its meeting held on Wednesday, 11th September, 2019, approved the award of Contract for the Rehabilitation of Outstanding Sectors of Oba-Nnewi-Arondizuogu-Okigwe Road in Anambra/Imo States Contract No.6628 in favour of your company (Messrs IIC Construction Company Limited/WiZ China Worldwide Engineering Limited) in the sum of N12,752,627,088.89( Twelve Billion, Seven Hundred and Fifty-two million, six hundred and Twenty-seven thousand, Eight-eight Naira, Eighty-nine kobo) inclusive of all taxes, with a completion period of Eighteen (18) months..."

*Currently, yours truly is pushing hard and pulling all strings to ensure that the Contractor moves to site. In this regards, I have started reaching out to all necessary parties.*

I wish to continue to plead with our people and all users of this ever important road who have had to endure great difficulties over the years on the failed portions to exercise a little more patience in the hope that all will be well soon. Thank you for your patience.

*I recall that during my re-election campaign for the third time in 2019, the peoples of Ekwulumili and Unubi constantly reminded me of the very bad state of the road; some even erroneously accused me of deliberately stalling my push for the rehabilitation of the stretch after Amichi, while abandoning the Unubi and Ekwulumili axis.*

*Do you blame them? I told myself that these people elected me for results and NOT excuses.* I reminded myself that the people don't care what I am going through in Abuja to attract projects for them; that what they desire are RESULTS and that I have to get the results. Period!

*I have been assuring them that I will continue to strive to see that the Federal Government completes the project which will extend to Aguata and Imo State, while providing easy access into and from Orumba South.*

Meanwhile, I had a very important Zoom Meeting on our Industrial Park Project with critical stakeholders on ealier in the week,Monday.

*The Industrial Park is projected to produce 25,000 direct Jobs and over 100,000 indirect jobs.*

Come with me, let's build a system that can solve her problems.
